On 10 September 2001, the CTBT saw the fifth anniversary of its adoption and I am very pleased to submit herewith an annual report of the Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS) of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization for the same year, which shows significant additional progress made in establishing the verification regime in all its aspects. During 2001, considerable achievements were made in the establishment of the International Monitoring System (IMS), which consists of a network of 321 seismic, hydroacoustic, infrasound and radionuclide stations and 16 radionuclide laboratories situated in some ninety countries around the world. By the end of the year 84% of the site surveys for the stations had been completed. Altogether 122 stations in all four technologies have been incorporated into the verification system and 104 additional stations are under construction or in the stage of contract negotiation  ....
